I don't think that there's anything very metaphysically deep about the artifacts, non artifacts distinction. So I think it would be wrong headed to give that distinction a ton of weight in our theorizing about the metaphysics of mind. If we can create from scratch molecule by molecule individual human embryos or human fetuses then they could plausibly have an immaterial soul. Now you might say, well no I've got some more heavyweight notion of artifact hood such that the lab created fetus doesn't count as an artifact. But now I want to say, okay, well if if being an artifact is not just a matter of being intentionally constructed by people and like some further condition is required then
