The Importance of Randomness in Integrative Medicine
Randomness is the key to living systems. Living things are not machines, despite how our culture for a couple of hundred years has used that as the dominant metaphor. So there's always going to be a little fuzziness in what the next possible moment could hold. This means that living systems, whether it's our bodies or our political parties or our economies, you can never predict precisely because it's like billiard balls. The very thing that makes it possible to be adaptive and alive also risks death.
