The Role of the Defense Department in Hollywood

If Katy Perry truly wanted to show the challenges of being a woman in the military, the Department of Defense probably wouldn't allow her to depict those incidents. When we only see brave, victorious depictions of the US military, it's easier to justify war and dismiss the devastations they cause. In the case of the Iraq War, strategies like this may have tipped public opinion in favor of a conflict the nation may not have wanted ordinarily.
