Kant would say that murder is wrong not because it brings unhappiness. Murder is wrong for him because he treats one human being as merely the means or as merely the tool for another human being's goals or purposes. So act as to treat humanity whether in your own person or in that of any other in every case is an end and never merely as a means. And so now it seems like choosing our if we're going to act upon these maxims we have to weigh these maxims against each other.
