The Narratives of the Bible Are Descriptive
The narratives of the Bible are descriptive on these points. Genesis 40 and 41 is not given to us as a prescription or an instruction in how to go about interpreting dreams. Rather, it is describing the way that God raised up this prophetic figure named Joseph who was given insight and wisdom so he could interpret dreams. And if we're reading these chapters thinking to ourselves, how do I get dreams and interpretations like Joseph, we are missing the whole point. These are not prescriptive. They're not instructional in the how to get led by God or how to get revelation from God since. They're descriptive in terms of what God did for these special prophetic figures in the past.
