The History of the Greek Alphabet
Greeks and Phoenicians were trade rivals, but there would have been trade partnerships. The Greek letter epsilon is a mirror image of the Phoenician letter he. This tradition continues with the modern day abjads of Hebrew, Arabic and Syriac. It appears that at some point the Greeks decided to write their texts in a Bostrofieden style - one line from right to left, and the following line from left to right.
