Dostoevsky wanted to write a character that he felt had never been written before in literature. Prince Michigan was sort of a combination between Jesus and Don Quixote presented realistically as a character. And you can tell by the title, perhaps, that he thinks this perfectly beautiful human being is not going to have a successful time in St. Petersburg.
