Steroid Prophylaxis and GI Side Effects
There's definitely some controversy over whether or not steroids in and of themselves are associated with ulcers and GI bleeding. But at least from studies, we've seen that the risk of ulcers increases fourfold whenever a patient is on steroids, plus an NSAID. Some effects like steroids plus a blood thinner can really synergize based on a patient. And then age sort of factors in so that there's no specific cut off, but the older someone is, the more I sort of think about it.
