Daphne Caruana-Gilitia made it her life's work to shine a light on the corruption, cronyism and rent seeking that she saw going on in Maltese politics. She suffered a near constant stream of attacks from people in positions of power in Maltese society - making her life very difficult. But more than this, if you get on the wrong side of, if you upset, important and powerful people, then your life can be made very difficult. Daphne was perhaps the ultimate example of both of these aspects.
