The Prison System of Francoist Spain
The prison system of Francoist Spain had its roots in the Civil War. The makeshift prison system that was constructed by the Francoist side during the Second World War perfectly embodied Cezanne's thesis. It operated within the framework, language and mindset of colonial occupation except those round up in the concentration camps weren't colonial subjects. They were Spanish citizens aligned with the Republic. And it's important because those on the receiving end of Francoist oppression would become the exact target of what French poet Aims de Zaire described as colonialism come home.
