The Superconductor and the Philosophy of Acceleration
Superconductor is basically think about in the abstract as a wire that basically transmits information without dumping any heat into the environment. With existing transmission line technology with superconducting transmission lines, all of a sudden you could have quantum computers and levitating trains. The odds of this breakthrough being a real progress at exactly 50-50 according to some betting markets. We live today in two worlds: One in which we have some room connectors for one of which we don't yet know if it's possible or not. And these potential futures are radically different from our entire world right now... It's like Schrodinger's cat -- I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next.
