The Cuckoo Pen

The cuckoo pen is a feature in south oxfordshire. It's thought to have been created by capturing the first cuckoo and thereby the return of spring, but no one really knows what it means anyway. The word 'stint' comes from rights of common which presented landowners with a challenge on how to allocate a limited resource across many people. A villager wouldn't over graze a pasture if all the animals woule dien away during the winter.
