The French Cavalry in the 17 Nineties

In basically every army, the cavalry officers were the most aristocratic and politically conservative of the three branches of service. They often became carried away and would continue riding after the enemy, effectively removing themselves from the battle. The french valry were generally considered the best of this period, which is remarkable given how hard they had been hit by the revolution. There were even cases of entire french cavalry regiments defecting to join the allies.
