"We have to be more aware of how we come across," she says. "There are students who just will not talk to the lecturer." She adds that there was still a fair bit of 'intrenched sexism and racism' in medicine at her school. The one thing Am didn't want to do was surgery when she did her clinical rotations, but after they were over she realised it wasn't for her.
