The Myth of the Savage Mind
i saw a lecture that graber, that was posted on you of course, of graeber discussing the myth of the stupid savage. I think that in the book it's nuanced, maybe a bit more than it was in graver's earlier lecture,. In the book they put forward this theory of schismogenesis where people hive off and define themselves in contradistinction to one another. So if you want to understand where society comes from and why it works the way it does, you often have to say, well, who are they splitting off from and how? And how do they then define themselves in contrast to the other?
