They were taken by surprise in 1927 in April when the nationalists pulled a coup and tried to kill as many communists as they could. After that, things kind of fell apart in the cities. Their networks were largely rounded up by the nationalists. By 1935, the Chinese Communist Party decided it had to abolish their Special Services Section.
