The plough pudding is not found until the nineteenth century, and only in norfolk. But it's a norfolk tradition that has been continued ever since. It was basically a suet pudding with bacon and sausage meat inside it,. And herbs and vegetables added to taste. This is a hot meal. It's not like a cold pork pie or anything. It's a proper hot meal served up and all the family digs into it. In the period after the middle ages, large teams of ploughboys were still needed to manage the oxen or the horses and get the ploughing done.
