What Is the Difference Between Sociology and Social Science?
Sociology, epistemologically, is as scientific as as anything else. Right to be a scientist is simply to ply the scientific method to whatever empirical pursuit that you are interested in pursuing. You could be an english literature professor and be a scientist. So if i did a content analysis of a hundred different er novels from around the world, and i applied very rigorous quantitative techniques from content analysis to then test my hypothesis, guess what? I'm a scientist. The fact that i am housed in the english literature department did not make me any less a scientist than the guy who was in the physics department.
