The Importance of the Coffee House
There were hundreds of coffee houses in London in the early 18th century. The one thing you would do there, apart from drinking coffee and talking, is to read aloud these publications. One of the extraordinary things about this publication is that it very soon became disseminated throughout the nation. In a way, the coffee house became somewhere that you could inhabit the London coffee house if you were elsewhere.
