A former new orleans man named joseph mumphrey was shot to death in los angeles. Mumphrey had once been the leader of a band of blackmailers who preyed on italians. A criminologist hypothesized that the axeman killed male victims only when they obstructed his emts to murder women. There's no actual evidence to link him, but ther's rans evidence about anything.
