Aquinas - The Separated Soul
Aquinas often uses the term essay in a technical philosophical sense, and I think that's what we're seeing in this text. He refutes the opinion that the soul has matter of some kind. And he concludes from that because the soul is not its own act of being or its own essay, it must be composed of quad-est,. That which is, and quo-est, that by which it is. So only God is perfectly simple in that sense.
