Bitcoin's Difficulty Adjustment

The supply of Bitcoin is capped at 21 million and that's just a fixed amount. But in a few years it's going to drop below 1.5% and that's going to be lower than the annual supply growth rate of gold. In my opinion difficulty adjustment is really the key and most important technology about Bitcoin. The other constituent parts were devised in many previous systems.
