The Different Views of Standing Genetic Variation

Standing genetic variation is the idea that in populations, there's just some preexisting background amount of variation. And this is where all the diversity comes from to make evolution. The other view is like the sushi conveyor view: You don't choose what it is that's coming up and you don't choose when it's coming up. But yeah, that's definitely a distinction that I'm getting at.
