In german, who is doing something in the sentence is always about the sentence. So er with the nominative, you ask er, who or what? But in english, there's no differenc between who and who. And that's really tricky to to em explain in a different language because i mean, i'm not really familiar with all the rules because i'm a native speaker german. It's probably not the same as that. I mean, it's like in English, we have active and passive verb forms.
