The gender gap is not a single statistic, it's going to change across a person's lifetime. When you do it in terms of the median, also in Terms of the mediun you're missing the fact that men, more so than women, have a much longer right tail in terms of earnings. Men generally earn somewhat more, but not a tremendous mount more. And then over time, we generally measure it for ten to 15 years, ten to 20 years, men begin to earn a lot more,. The gap widens quite a lot, 55 % by the time they reach the early forties.

Do you earn the same salary as your male coworkers? How certain are you? For women, the wage gap is a common concern, for good reason: the average, college-educated woman starts out earning close to what her male peers do, but over a lifetime, the pay gap widens. Even for women who graduate from college, get an MBA, and take a job at a high-paying firm — 10 or 15 years into our careers, we’re earning only 60 percent of what men are.

There are a lot of complex factors that go into creating the wage gap — race, education, industry. Amy, Sarah, and Nicole dive into one that doesn’t get as much attention: age.
