What Is the Biggest Thing About Film?
Under the regulations of socialist realism, life in the Soviet Union had to be presented positively. For artists and filmmakers who were mining the bleaker elements of everyday life, it was more realistic for many citizens of the Soviet Union. But it was also a very subversive rejection of socialist requirements for artistic production. It wasn't an attempt to whitewash everyday life. It didn't present life in a particularly positive light but actually it was a kind of broadcasting of the realities and the hardships of living under the Soviet system.
