On January 11, 1965, teen friends Christine Sherrick and Mary Ann Schmidt took the train with four of Mary Ann's younger siblings to spend a day at Cronella Beach. That was the last time the two girls would ever be home again. They arrived there around 11 in the morning, and to their surprise and disappointment, the beach was closed due to high winds and rough waters. But having made the journey by train, the kids were not about to just turn back and go home.
