The Influence of John Cage on Warhol
Andy Warhol is a difficult figure to discuss because his work is very intellectual, but he was not very articulate. He would cite John Cage as one of the two or three prime influencers of his career. His business partner and collaborator Paul Marissey's descriptions of Warhol have shaped my own view of his life. By 1955 Warhol was making about $12,000 a year, somewhere close to $130,000 a week drawing shoes for advertisements.
