Blockchain was good because it took everybody's attention away from ML for several years. Now that people have realized that blockchain is all terrible, the buckets of money are sloshing into ML. It's great in some ways, but it can be distracting in others. But then again, like most of finance also, we've had Ponzi schemes for a very long time.
