The Role of the British Empire in World War II
The UK does not have a sort of moment of national birth per se But I think we can sort of understand the way in which 1945 has been narrativized. As taking something of a role of like a national founding moment. It allows the British state to imagine itself as always necessarily in opposition to fascism. For people at the receiving end of that imperial violence there was very little distinction To be made between Hitler's version of on freedom and tyranny and what the British Empire was putting into place.
