The Harm of Conversion Therapy

Exodus International's president Alan Chambers renounced conversion therapy and acknowledged the harm that his organization had done in 2013. Many of the X-Gate leaders turned their back on conversion therapy and started speaking out against these practices. This increasing resistance to trying to change queer people crystallized around the highly publicized death of Ohio teenager Lila Alcorn, who was placed in conversion therapy. The Obama administration responded with a letter signed by a senior member of the White House staff which was unprecedented.
