The Role of Genes in Evolution

There's a kind of interesting conflict and divide in the biological community right now. It centers around how to view the roles of genes appropriately in evolution. This is related to a concept sometimes called the extended evolutionary synthesis. And essentially what people have argued that are proponents of this idea is that the sort of bare bones of the modern synthesis no longer capture all of the interesting things that we know are happening.
