Island is a colorful term for this idea. It was coined by the Etsy front-end team and then Jason Miller created the idea. Instead of hydrating your whole page, hydrate the parts of it that need it and don't hydrate the rest. So when everything's in Island, you have to think a bit more about how that state is being passed. Like React, if you're doing Redux, like it's different trees on the pit.
