Fitzroy was a captain in the navy and wanted to create a warning system for storms. He set up a series of storm warnings, which were only accurate about 50% of the time. The first one they issued was in february 18 61, and within weeks, got eight more. By the end of that summer, they were providing daily forecasts for several ifferent regions of the british isles.
