We have in humans about 400 receptors. We've got potentially one trillion older molecules that humans can respond to. I can smell one trillion different things. And there are definitely not a trillion different types of locks in your nose. There's only 400. So the idea that you might have certain shapes of certain molecules responsible for certain qualities was naive. It looks so plausible, but this is just not how it works.
