Is the Universe a Mathematical Description?
Calculus is often described as the language of physics. It's really a very, very powerful tool to describe what we see about the universe. Almost all the laws of physics can be expressed in terms of objects that were invented for calculus. Calculus also handles things that are not rate of change with time.
