Brisset's First Address to the House of Commons
Brissot was the primary author of the republican petition that was being signed at the champ de mars when lafayette came down to break up the party. Brisset did not suffer for his involvement, however, and he was shortly thereafter elected as a delegate to the legislative assembly representing paris. So back to his maiden address on october twentieth, 17 91. His topic was, what do we do about the emigres? And boy was it a barn burner. He painted a picture of a vast europe wide conspiracy against france, orchestrated by the emigre to topple the volution. The flight to verenne was, for brisa, just further proof
