During an earthquake, the head, in part of the shoulders, were damaged and fell down in front of the group of sculptures that make up the Abu Simbal design. His engineers basically report back and say, we can't do it. We don't have the technology. Well, that's a huge giveaway that there's no way that Ramses II actually had this thing commissioned.
