Douglas MacArthur was fired by President Truman because he wrote a letter to a Republican member of Congress criticizing Truman. If the Chinese had not tied down the millions of Japanese soldiers in China, they would have been deployed against the United States. I'm absolutely convinced it was his experience in World War II where the Japanese could be defeated because they were fighting the Chinese at the same time. They had such a significant impact on his thinking. He said, you can win in the air and we have more weapons. The one thing that the Soviet Union and the China can do is they can deploy millions and millions and millions of soldiers in this puts the United States at a distinct disadvantage.
