Introduction
René Girard has covered an intellectual territory that ranges from psychology to anthropology. His most recent book, I See Satan of All Like Lightning, is a further development of ideas he first presented in two earlier works on the scapegoat and things hidden since the foundation of the world. He writes as a Christian, but what he puts forward in these writings is neither theology nor spiritual testimony. What is revealed Girard thinks is the hidden violence that is built into all cultures.
