In 1340, the Iberians made a major push against the Moors. The cannons were powered by a mixture of chemicals we call gunpowder. Roger Bacon already knew about it by 1267 when he wrote his opus magis to the pope. Since the Xerup is exiting the Middle Ages, they found a whole new world to conquer.
