How Much Staff Has the NHS Increased Since the Pandemic?

Before the pandemic, there were about 9,000 vacancies for doctors and dentists in the NHS in England. Since then we've added 14,000 more medical staff but target number has increased by 40,000. It's slightly worse for nursing staff - 36,000 have been added since before the pandemic. This means we've got about 28,000 more vacancies in the NHS than before the pand epidemic.
