Mukulika Banerjee has written this great book on the Kudhai Kidmathgar called the Patan Anand. To do research for the book she took ten years to write it but she spent a few months in the Northwest Frontier Province in Pakistan looking for past members of the family. She noticed that as she goes through these villages you know in those areas beef is very cheap and chicken is expensive so every house keeps just one chicken in case a special guest comes. Mukulika felt so bad that she started eating beef and then she came back to India and she told her mother who was a devout Hindu about what she had done. Her mother thought for some time and said
