The temples of the Acropolis had also been destroyed, but as we mentioned last episode, the Greek forces had sworn the so called Oath of Plataea to leave them in ruins. The old temple of Athena Polius was probably brought back into immediate use by some sort of temporary improvisation,. But no attempt was made to restore the building to its previous form. Not until peace had been made with Persia did Athena receive her new home, when the Parthenon arose on the foundations which were intended for a building of wholly different proportions.
