Some machine learning algrytms work really well with only a handful of samples, while others require tons and tons of examples your training data set. There is also a decision tree put out by sychit learn, a python library for shallow learning machine learning algorithms they have a decision tree, a picture, like a flow chart, for helping you decide which algorithm to use given the circumstances. And the final approach, finally, once we've decided a handful of algrithms that we can used given the circumstances, is to actually just try them all.
