How the Romans Perceived Old Age
When we talk about roman attitudes towards old age, we get a wide range of approaches. But almost inevitably, they tend to come from the upper class adult mail. Cicero wrote a dialogue about old age in forty four b c which is often said to be a defence of old age or a praise of old age. Montaigne famously claimed that reading cato's dialogue gave him the appetite to grow old - can you gie the context of that? And there are abundant sources in satire for more negative views on old age.
