The Importance of Care in Indian Marriage
The overwhelming majority of Indian men believe that a woman's most important role is to take care of her home and cook for her family. Employed women in India actually receive fewer matrimonial offers. If men feel entitled, resistance may incite violence. Many women find greater love, social recognition and self-worth in being caregivers - thereby withdrawing from the world of paid employment.
