The Ways of the Underworld in Virgil's Aeneid

Parmenides' decision to use a Homeric and heseotic form for expressing his wisdom should not surprise us. He uses the weight of traditional forms and authority in the form of the goddess to give weight to knowledge which, as the goddess says, is far removed indeed from the step of men. The import of his message, that there's a secret core to reality which is purely one cannot be overemphasized.
