The Ego Ideal and the Conflicting Instincts

Freud says our unconscious drives are not like absolutely natural and therefore we have to liberate all of them. He's suggesting that these unconscious drives come to be shaped through like generations of repetition. So when the ego forms the super ego out of the id it is instead reviving previous egos from previous generations who have been shaped by society, by authority, by other things as well.
