Why Do We Have Two Tide Per Day?

The reason we have two tides every day is because the Earth is rotating. The effect of this is to sort of stretch the Earth out a little bit. Now that effect acts upon the land and the sea, but because the land is made of, it's mostly solid, you don't see the effect as much. So basically the ocean bulges relative to the land.
